You wouldn't start training without knowing why, so don't ask your team to.

David Chase  ::  Leadership Development

Asking your team to start work without connecting it to the strategy is a bit like this:

Leader: I want you to run a race.

Team: Great. How far?

Leader: Don’t worry about that. You just need to know that we are running a race.

Team: Ok boss. Running on trails or asphalt?

Leader: Does it matter?

Team: Erm, okay. Last one… Is it flat, or should we train for hills?

Leader: I don’t know. Let’s just train for both.

Remember, your job as a leader is to translate the strategy and connect your team's work to it. Get it right, and it will show up in your next engagement score.
